Safeguarding & Student Privacy
Our commitments to protecting young people who use Extended Essay Dashboard.
1. Our Commitment
Extended Essay Dashboard is designed for use with students aged 15–19 in IB school settings. We take our responsibility to protect young people seriously. This statement sets out the safeguarding and student privacy commitments that are built into the design and operation of the platform.
2. No Public-facing Student Data
Student data is never publicly visible. There are no public-facing student profiles, no publicly searchable student names, and no mechanism for anyone outside the school's authorised user base to access student content. All student data sits within the school's closed environment.
3. Controlled Access
Authentication alone does not grant access to school data. A student must have a valid school invitation/provisioning record before a trusted school and role are assigned. Student data is tenant-scoped and access is further controlled by role, identity and assigned-supervisor rules.
4. Communication Safeguards
The only direct communication channel on the platform is between a student and their assigned supervisor, within the context of their Extended Essay project. This communication is logged and visible to the school coordinator. There is no direct messaging between students.
5. No Advertising or Profiling
Student data is never used for advertising, commercial profiling, or marketing. We do not serve targeted advertising. We do not share student data with any advertising network or data broker.
6. AI Usage Statement
Any AI-assisted features within the platform (such as writing suggestions or reflective prompts) operate on anonymised or user-initiated content only. Student data is not used to train public AI models. All AI features are optional and clearly labelled.
7. School Responsibility
The school remains responsible for its own safeguarding policies, including how it manages student account creation, which supervisors are assigned, and how it monitors the use of the platform. Extended Essay Dashboard supports and enables the school's safeguarding framework but does not replace the school's own duties.
8. Reporting Concerns
If a school identifies a concern related to the platform — including a potential breach of student privacy or an inappropriate use of the system — they should contact us immediately at hello@extended-essay.com. We take all such reports seriously and will respond promptly.
